Captain Casey Reardon learns that notorious gangster boss Enzo Cortino possesses a secret ledger that could potentially be used to bring him to justice. The ledger is supposedly with his girlfriend Helena Varga, so Reardon sends a spirited and spunky young black female detective named Christie Love undercover to get to the heart of what makes Varga tick and get her to co-operate.
